Orchard Street Ravine (Work in Progress)

Orchard St. Ravine is a 2.2 acre site comprised of two Parks owned parcels of land separated by an unimproved street right-of-way (38th Ave SW), with another unimproved right-of-way (SW Orchard St.) bordering the northeast side of the site also included in the greenspace. The majority of the woodland site contains a madrone-Douglas fir forest situated on west and southwest facing slopes, while the remainder of the site is fairly flat and open with dense thickets of blackberry. The forest type found at Orchard St. is one that is fairly scarce in Seattle – data reveals that only 52 acres out of 2700 acres of Seattle’s urban forest in Parks ownership that was surveyed contains the conifer-madrone forest that is present at the Orchard St. site. As is seen throughout the city, the woods exhibit signs of decline and invasion by non-native species.

This park is on the end of a narrow and steep dead end residential street, So night caching would not be cool.

I found this cache with a friend, Icongirl, who lives nearby. This is her first cache! The GPS sent us into some blackberries, but after some poking around while getting poked, we realised we were on teh wrong track. We eventually found our way.

We also found one at the top of the hill. Such a lovely part of Seattle -- what great views!

Thanks for the cache.

Last of our West Seattle adventure. Thought at first the coords were leading us astray but they proved to be right on and, once believed, led us to the prize. Thanks for 8 today, Funnynose, including those two DNFs, of course Blush .

It makes one wonder when relative newbies find a cache that you spent almost an hour to find, and didn't. Oh well, I guess that's how it goes. It also doesn't help when you copy the wrong hints. This one will have to wait a while. So sad.

We spent a few minutes looking around when a neighbor came out and was very concerned about our searching the area. He is one of the people helping to restore the area and they have a lot of new plantings they are worried about as well as volunteer Madrona seedlings which he says are fairly rare. We looked at all of the hint items, prior to his visit and didn't see anything. He mentioned that they recently did a major trash pick up and it may have been found and tossed.

This was quite a lovely spot. For some reason it felt peaceful and serene. TFTC and taking us to this spot.

I didn't even get as close as dad did, I mostly let naj3, Mahawking and my annoying big brother SuperDudeSam do this one for me. I kept Lil'J out of trouble, though.

This one was easy for me, because I got close, pointed and then naj3 and the boys did the actual work. I just provided encouraging noises from the sidelines.

Found after giving up the upside approach and going around to the more traditional approach. Some brush cutting in immedated area of cache but still undisturbed. Box is becoming one with the environment but still dry.

[#1849] I am visiting the area on business from Long Island, NY. I had the weekend to myself so what a better way to enjoy sites then caching. Today was a little overcast so some of the views were a little restricted but overall I had a fantastic time. I finally broke down and at the end of the day did the tourist thing and rode to the top of the Needle. Wow - this one took a little work to get to. Thanks for a fine cache!
