| Just off a trail, not too difficult. Watch out for the stinging
nettles and the poison oak! However, the Rodents of Unusual Size
are on strike, so you should be OK if you're careful. |
UPDATE 05/16/2006: This cache has now lasted FIVE years, and is one
of the oldest in Washington State. It has been muggled twice in the
last year however, and this park does not have a great track record
for "protecting" caches. Because of this, I have moved this cache
about 15 feet from its original placement to get it further away
from foot traffic while keeping with the original spirit (slippery
root) of the cache. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE when finding this cache,
cover well when you leave. I have also up'ed the terrain rating a
half star, as there is a bit more "slippery" in its new location.
Also, as of 05/16/06 there is evidence that a homeless person has
set up camp near the trail on the way up to the cache. I saw traces
of a campfire and bedding very near the parking lot end of the
trail. Please use caution, this may not be the best cache to do
after dark. *******************************************************
Update 06/06/2005: Please take extra care in re-hiding this cache.
This cache was muggled once before and in the last week another
cache in this park went MIA.
******************************************************** Container
is an ammo can (see picture). Initial contents include 3.5" hard
drive guts, glass etching cream, bag o' marbles, four memory chip
keyrings, 12g CO2 Cartridge, CO2 expansion chamber for paintball
gun.

Back in 2003 I had a DNF here - one of my first - and it's remained my oldest unredeemed DNF. I never was back in the area, but I made sure to gradually cache my way into this direction today in order to give it another go. Was glad to find it today. Yay! Thanks!

GPSr really didn't dig this spot. It never put me within 50ft of the cache and occasionally wanted to put me down the hill and back up the other side. Thanks for the good hint which got me to where I was supposed to be, as without that I doubt I would have made the find. TFTC

Gravity works but boots help. TFTH.

This was the last of 5 caches for today. Found the parking area pretty easy after following the GPS'R. Changed the settings to off road and followed the GPS'R to GZ. I started on the wrong side at first but then noticed I went to far down. Scaled back up and around to the other side where I found what I was looking for. TFTH, TNLN, SL

Took the very slippery route from the beach. Cool cache. A geotrail is starting to form to the cache location. Even my border collie struggled on the slippery slopes. What fun!

Arrgh, this was a painful DNF. I cache "blind" now since Mobipocket no longer support GS software, a practice I need to curtail for caches like these. 1st of all, I missed the subtle trail head so I approached this one "the Hard Way", particularly so while its raining. Finally ran into the trail when I was near the cache. I felt like such a numb nuts. GPSr reception had me all over the place, even with supposed accuracy of +- 12 ft. Oh well, I come back armed with the hint.

GPS had me about 60 feet too far north so the hint was invaluable and led me right to it. TNLN, TFTC.

We started our hunt from the beach which made it a nice long walk/hike. Six year old got a little scared by the slippery roots and at one point we got off trail but easily got back on. Next time we'll take a picture of the hint...so we can find this! Had fun anyway.

Continuing our caching day with MaplessInSeattle... Mr. Mapless and the Solver-half of Team SGS proved they didn't need no stinkin' trails, while Mrs. Mapless and the Finder-half waited by the car, being sensible. We took a ball, left a cow, and signed the log. It's always a pleasure to find a geocache with a five-digit GC#, with great company. Thanks for the cache. 712

This was a great co-caching experience with SGS. We left half of the team behind, as we decided to do this the hard way. We came back the easy way of course. Very nice cache TFTH. T:toy L:toy

I seriously doubt if the cache will be muggled in its current location! TFTH.

Hints (Back) Go north when you see a twin tree - the tree looks like a single tree from the trail, but when you see it at the right angle, it becomes two. About 15 feet down hill from here.
