Taking the scenic route home from a doctor's appointment nearby, I drove by here and knew I had to place a cache.   A walk around the track brought back childhood memories of P.E., as well as Shop Class and Boys' Home Economics in a building immediately west of the track.  The buildings are long gone and the surrounding area turned into a park.

During my early teenage years I attended the school that once was located on this property.  We were known as the Sunset Junior High Panthers.  I recall the teachers having to stop their lectures while planes flew over.  The volume of flights was much less than today, but the old Boeing 727's that were the most popular jet at the time were significantly louder.  Reaching back 40 years in my memory bank, I believe the cache site is close to where the busses used to drop us off at the front of the school.   The school was operational from 1959 until 1976.

You're searching for a small camo'd Lock'n'Lock container.  The area has a clear view of the sky, allowing your GPSr to pickup a max. number of satellites which will help narrow your search to a manageable portion of an area with many possibilities.

Initial cache contents: small bandaids dispenser, magnetic-back thermometer, hot wheels car, Boeing "Propulsion Systems Division" patch, 2 golf pencils & Geoboater's #3 micro puck geocoin.

Congratulations to ljkdh for their FTF on 3/27/08

After a few minutes of looking and not finding, I used it as an excuse to call a PAF I haven't talked to for a while. Found it while he was figuring out which cache I was talking about and signed the log while chatting. Last cache before taking my Mom to the airport for her to go home. FrownFrown

Found this one without too much trouble. What a nice area for a cache that we would have never seen otherwise.

The hint threw me for a minute or two because I didn't realize that there was more than one of the hint item in the vicinity. Took two TB's and left one. TFTC.

Nice to have another cache in here.. So sad to see junk starting to pile up around here again after the Team Effort CITO event in Janurary.

For those interested it looks like they are having a "Clean up the park day" event. (non geocaching) on Saturday April 19, 2008 9am-noon

Woohoo our 10th FTF.

Woke up this morning to find a publish close to home. Had to check it out on the way in to work. I just found this football field about a week ago.

Was able to make a fairly quick grab in the freezing cold morning air. Took nothing and left nothing. TFTC.
